Our History
- 1942: Sunlight Media Group is founded in California during World War II. The company begins producing animated shorts and children’s radio programs designed to provide comfort during the Battle of Midway and beyond.
- 1950s: Expands into print publishing and Saturday morning television programming, bringing lighthearted stories to a new generation of children.
- 1960s–1970s: Establishes a national presence with syndicated shows and merchandise lines, becoming a household name across America.
- 1982: Launches Sunlight Entertainment, a new division devoted entirely to children’s television and media.
- 1990: Charlie & Friends premieres on Local 66, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon.
- 1990s: Expands into toys, merchandise, and licensing, securing the company’s place as a leader in family entertainment.
- 2000: Establishes Sunlight Interactive to develop video games and online content.
- 2001: Opens the first Charlie’s Diner, a family-themed restaurant experience.
